Why We Decided To Adopt

I suppose the title of this should be ” Why We Decided To Document Everything”.

The reason being is because we are currently at the end of stage two waiting for the panel to happen (more to follow on this) and having finished our 9 weeks of visits from our social worker, we decided it would be a great way of documenting our journey into finding our Forever Family.

Tim and I have been together now for nearly 3 years, from the early stages of our relationship we both realised that we wanted to become parents and discussed many ways for this to happen.

In October 2016 we took our first holiday to Australia and had the time of our lives, here we met up with our friends Michelle and Grace along with their son Gabriele. We witnessed the love and adoration they had for their son. This made it even more real for us to realise that we too can be as happy as them. Once we came home the conversations about becoming a family happened more and more.

conversations

Having numerous conversations with our family about getting married, buying a house or starting a family, we sat down one weekend and started to think harder about what we wanted in our lives and when we wanted it.

Tim looked into buying a home, I looked into many wedding venues. Tim started to look into ways we could grow our little family of 3 (onyx the cat) to a bigger family unit.

Deciding to grow our family first was more important as it was more of a craving having this. In October 2017 Tim emailed Essex County Council and requested an Adoption Pack. This led to us attending an Adoption Meeting on Saturday 18th November.

The nerves were rife when we entered the room. We were roughly in the company of 10 couples, 3 being of same-sex.

We listened to what Essex County Council had to say and we got the opportunity to listen to an Adopters story, which was a gay man explaining his journey about him and his husband’s journey to becoming a family with 2 children.

The journey home was an unusually quiet one (I think we were taking in everything that had just been said). Once home we discussed it further over dinner and for a few weeks continued to discuss whether it was right for us. We were ready as a couple to become a family.

The Registration of interest form had already been filled out and we were waiting for our next chapter to start.

We received an email on January 17th 2018 informing us that “our form has been processed” and that we would receive a Stage One Pack in the post shortly………………..
